Ga-Adangbe Association of Toronto Gives to Orphanage
In January, 2017, the Ga-Adangbe Association of Toronto, Canada, presented many bags of rice, gallons of oil, bags of sugar and a cash of 1000 Gh Cedis in support of the Heart Beat of Hope Training Institute at Ayawaso in the Ga-South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The presentation forms part of the initiative of the community to support needy orphanages and training institutes to empower the needy and less privileged in the society to become employable.
The Country Representative of the community, Eric Saviour Okai, said the Ga-Adangbe residents in Canada had taken it upon themselves to identify an orphanage each year to contribute their widow’s mite to the development of society saying “giving is part of Christianity, blessed is the hand the giveth.” The acting head of the institute, Araba Hammond, commended the community for the support, adding that the institute has financial challenges and appealed to philanthropic organizations for continued support for the institute.
Hope
Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Ayawaso, Nii Tettey Kojo II; Queen Mother of Ga-Adangbe Community in Canada, Naa Akuyea Afriyie; some members of the Ga-Adangbe Association; and officials of the institute. The Heart Beat of Hope Training Institute was established in 1996 as a training centre of the Village of Hope Orphanage at Gomoa-Fetteh in the Central Region, for the training of street children to acquire skills. It has so far taken about 150 children out of the street and equipped them with skills in sewing, leather work and auto mechanic.
